Eligibilty

Educational and training credits are available in respect of children aged 0 to 17 who have been in care for three months or more. This includes children just beginning school, those whose education has been disrupted, and those with special educational needs or disabilities.

Credits are available to help you provide educational materials in the foster home. You can apply for a credit on behalf of one child in particular (for example a guitar for a rock mad teenager) or on behalf of everyone in the home (for example a computer for everyone to do their homework on).

Credits are scaled according to the young persons age. The guidelines exist:

  • £250 for 0 to 5 year olds
  • £400 for 6 to 10 year olds
  • £500 for 11 to 15 year olds
  • £800 for those aged 16 years or over.

These credits can be used to purchase facilities and materials to aid and improve education such as:

  • tuition
  • driving lessons
  • computers and software to support learning at home
  • activities such as swimming, horse riding or sports activities
  • musical instruments
  • sports equipment
  • arts and crafts materials
  • educational play equipment for pre-school children

We can provide additional support if a child in your care has special educational needs, or a disability.
